And the Oscar went to…The Sting

George Roy Hill and his 2 right hand men Paul Newman and Robert Redford got the job in done in 1974 after falling short with Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid 4 years earlier.

The Sting stood atop a heap that see’s some of the most famous movies of all time. American Graffiti has endured as an essential piece of American film. The Exorcist is considered the first out-and-out horror film to have been nominated for the top award, and was also one of the highest grossing films of all time when it came out in 1973.

Cries and Whispers has persisted as one of Ingmar Bergman’s finest films in one of movies’ most revered careers and A Touch of Class, perhaps the least remembered, offers a complete departure from the rest of the films.

Looking at the list Hollywood is no doubt amidst its greatest era, but with a list of promising films to choose from, did they get it right with The Sting?
